(scars make us who we are) Graham snickered a little at Canyons obvious confusion. "Why was I making out with him? Cuz he's hot" That was the short of it, anyway. "I met him earlier today when I went for a swim. He joined me in the pool, we flirted and one thing led to another." He grinned at the memory. It had been nice, Alex's arms around his neck, his soft lips against his own. "Nothing serious happened though, I mean, it was just a snog. But he's cute" Grays favorite part of the whole afternoon hadn't even been the kissing -although that had definitely been awesome- it had been the fact that once everything was said and done, he had been allowed to take care of Alex. He always liked that, being there for people, and the fact that he'd met someone just today and had been allowed to carry him out of the pool, that Alex had actually asked for his help, it had been nice. It had made him feel important.
Shifting on the bed, he went to lie down in kind of a strange manner, his head dangling off the bed while his legs were folded against the wall. It was comfortable, for a while anyway, though he'd soon change his position again if the blood was rushing to his head. He was always moving, never able to stay in one position for long, he was sure Canyon was used to it by now. "Actually babe, that's exactly what straight means" Seriously? Being straight didn't mean someone didn't like guys? It was kind of sweet that Can said it, but Gray wasn't that dumb. He knew what it meant. It meant that he was forever destined to be Kai Durants friend. And that was fine, it was amazing he could have that much. But there was no point in thinking about anything more, it just broke his heart every time he had to acknowledge it wasn't going to happen. "And I haven't ever 'bumped uglies' with anyone and I still know I'm gay, so your point is moot" He tilted his head a little to look at his friend, before moving again, carelessly plopping his head in Cans lap and looking up at him with those puppy eyes that just begged for a head scratch. "There's really nothing to tell, Can. He's amazing, I love him to death and he's not interested in me that way. Really, I'll live."

Canyon had to honestly admit that… nothing like that had ever happened to him. He didn’t know how to feel about that sort of information. Of course, he wasn’t judging Graham. He would never, ever judge his friend. He just… He didn’t know those kinds of things happened. Yeah, he saw them on TV but… he just thought that was TV. Did that make him sheltered? He really wasn’t sure. Though, a certain word broke his thoughts and made him giggle like some kind of immature kid. Snog. Canyon absolutely loved that word. It sounded cute but awkward rolling of the tongue and he couldn’t help but repeat his friend, “Snog,” with another little giggle. Graham had to have been used to this by now but still he apologized. “Sorry, I just like that word,” he smiled, “Like panini. It’s fun to say and sounds interesting. Say it. Panini. Pa-ni-ni!” He really needed to learn how to not go off on tangents like that. He couldn’t help it, though. He really couldn’t. As soon as the little immature wave passed, he was back to business. “What were we talking about again? Oh, yeah. You and Kai,” he paused and blinked for a moment, another goofy grin stretching across his lips. This time he had the restraint to smother the child in him with ice cream.
As Graham shifted, Canyon did as well. He sat up with his back resting against the wall near Graham’s legs. His lanky limps stretched out parallel to the other’s body and he scrunched his nose. “Your feet stink,” it was just a quiet tease and he honestly meant nothing by it. Graham had just managed to bring Canyon back to normal. He was no longer feeling weak or lazy or tired or sick. He was happy again. He was light-hearted and ready for fun. Though, that kind of faded as Gray tore apart the poorly pieced together theory Canyon had. Granted, it was kind of… weak. But, still. There was a certain thing Canyon was trying to get across. “Well, what if…” he trailed off, trying to think of the best possible way to put this… “Just because someone says they’re straight doesn’t mean that they are.” Another pause. “For example: I’m a girl.” Canyon looked at Gray with raised eyebrows. “I just said I was a girl. Does that make me a girl?” Canyon knew this could go one of two ways… Either way was bound to be amusing.

(scars make us who we are) This was why Gray loved Canyon. In the midst of a serious conversation he could suddenly be a total retard (and Gray meant that in the most positive and loving way possible) and dissolve into a fit of giggles over a word. Especially British words, and sometimes Gray infused them in his speech for kicks, just because he wanted to coax a smile from the boys mouth. When he went on to talk about how panini was such a funny word, he couldn't help chuckling, reaching out to ruffle Canyons hair in a gesture that said 'oh you' and 'god, I love you' and all those things that he usually didn't put into words. He knew Can knew what he meant though, they were just those kind of friends.
Wrinkling his nose when Canyon said his feet stank, he stuck out his tongue, then waited for his friend to come up with another semi-plausible theory. Hearing what he came up with though, he couldn't help but laugh, shaking his head a little - while still having it in the others lap. "Well, that depends" He said, laughter still in his voice despite the fact that he was semi-serious. "If you wanted to be a girl .. then yeah, you'd be a girl, cause it's what's on the inside that matters" He might be hotheaded in a lot of cases but he was pretty easy about things like this. People couldn't help it if they were born in the wrong body, or born with a liking for those of the same gender.
"I get your point, really, I do. But he's my best friend, Can, I'd think that if he would have those feelings he'd tell me. He knows I wouldn't laugh at him or look at him different. He knows that I'm gay" They had sort of skirted around the issue, until Gray had sat down with him one afternoon, saying 'you know I'm and Kai had answered 'of course' before he could finish his question. Maybe Kai was into guys and expected Gray to know? He wasn't as smart as Kai, though, so he doubted it. It was like Occams razor (look, he knew stuff!), the most likely theory was probably the truth: his friend was straight.

“You didn’t say it,” Canyon pouted when Graham seemed to refuse to accept the word ‘panini’ into his life and, instead, just mussed up the senior’s hair. But, of course, Canyon couldn’t keep a smile from his face for long. As he shook his hair out, hoping for the misplaced locks to fall back into the right place and not really caring if they didn’t, he just grinned. He knew Graham cared about him and about their friendship and that was all that mattered. The boy had patience and could stick through all of Canyon’s random tangents about funny words, British or not, and even adored him for it. Canyon wasn’t perfect and he was just glad his best friend loved his little flaws.
“I’m a girl. But I don’t want to be a girl,” and now they were back on serious matters. The smile faded into a shadow of what it once was but never completely vacated his features. “See? It’s this little thing called lying. Everyone does it nowadays.” The boy pressed his lips into a thin line and nodded his head in a sage-like manner. His green eyes watched his fingers as he absently played with Graham’s hair because he always had to be moving. It took a moment for the senior to work up an argument to rebuttal Graham’s but the second he thought of it, life flashed into his eyes.
“He’s your best friend. That’s exactly why you wouldn’t know if he had feeling for you because he wouldn’t tell you, silly!” He gave Graham a minute to process that little big of (what Canyon thought to be) intellectual genius-ness. This was an area Canyon was an expert in: more than best-friend-feelings. He had had a crush on December practically his entire life. They grew up in the same town and went to school together nearly all their lives. She was his best friend yet they had ended up becoming more than that. “It’s scary, you know – liking your best friend. You have such… a connection to them. A safe set of boundaries where everything flows perfectly within it. It takes some real balls to step out of those boundaries, you know why?” Unlike before, he only paused a heart beat before continuing, “Because the moment someone admits that they like their best friend more than just a friend, that entire relationship changes. Sometimes… It’s for the good and sometimes it’s a horrible, catastrophic mess…” Canyon knew that wasn’t exactly the best place to leave off. In fact, it would probably deter Graham away from the possibility that he and Kai might have something. He had to finish on a positive note, though: “And you know what I always say, right? Life is about taking risks. I took a risk with December, remember?”
