He stared at the stack of books on his bed with a blank expression. He knew he had homework to do, and he had honestly been planning on doing it but that was when he was still around Keiran. That boy had a strange effect on him; he made Aubrey Valentine want to do things he normally wouldn’t do – like actually do well in school. Now that Keiran had removed himself from the senior’s presence, Aubrey really didn’t feel like doing much of anything letalone his school work. It’s not like he ever did any of it. The last thing he wanted was his instructors to expect it from him every day. Granted, when he was at school on their time, he would at least try to do their work. But now he was in his room. He was running on his time and could do whatever he wanted.
And, right now, what he wanted to do was distract himself from the fact that Keiran was out with some guy that wasn’t Aubrey. Despite his obvious displeasure. Aubrey had told Keiran not to go – at first, anyway. He said that there would be other times that Keiran could go out with someone and that the douche wasn’t the right guy for him. He complained that if Keiran didn’t stay, Aubrey would never get his homework done because he wouldn’t have the little push he needed. He practically begged because he was selfish and wanted Keiran all to himself despite the fact he never told Keiran he wanted the blonde all to himself. Aubrey wasn’t stupid. He wasn’t denying his feelings for his best friend. He knew he cared for the other a little more than a friend cared for someone. Which was probably why the guy that is hardly ever single seems to find himself without a girlfriend or boyfriend. They just… weren’t what he was looking for. What he was looking for had been at his side all along. The boy just couldn’t risk ruining what they have because he wanted more and it might not being what is meant to be. So, in the end, he made sure Keiran went. Even if it was on a bit of a sour note… What if he really was the boy for Keiran? Aubrey had no right keeping him away from the other even if it meant that he’d have to keep what he felt a secret.
He sighed softly and glanced around the room. At least he still had his guitar.

It was really upsetting the way that Keiran had left Aubrey alone in their shared dormitory. But Aubrey was being stubborn.. belligerent, even. It seemed like lately no matter who it was that Keiran leaned over and whispered into Aubrey's ear that he thought was cute, Aubrey objected. It started to feel like Aubrey was a severely over protective big brother, and Keiran didn't like that. So he had stormed out and left Aubrey, feeling angry, as he went on his date.
It hadn't taken Keiran long after meeting up with the boy to forget about the argument that he had with his best friend. The boy was cute, tall, and ridiculously charming. The only problem was that he thought Keiran was a girl and Keiran was just too nervous to tell him the truth. He was afraid that the boy would run away from him. He didn't stop to think about the fact that maybe the boy would run away regardless. He was utterly heterosexual and well, Keiran had a penis no matter how feminine he looked and no matter how soft his voice was.
But Keiran was in heaven. They went out to I-Drive and played putt-putt golf. Keiran was absolutely dreadful at the game but his date was patient and helpful, even coming up to help Keiran line up a few of his shots. After the game of golf, they kissed. It was a sweet kiss that made Keiran's heart flutter. But then he did what he should have done from the beginning. He told the boy that he was really a boy as well.
From there it all went down hill.
To make a long story short, Keiran's date flipped out and ended up walking away to leave Keiran to find a way home on his own. The poor sixteen year old boy was left crying in the middle of the street and to make matters worse, it was raining season. No sooner than the boy had left Keiran, it started to pour. Not just sprinkle, but pour. So here was, soaked to the bone with his make up and tears running down his face as he fumbled with the keys to the dormitory he shared with Aubrey.
Aubrey. His best friend was right about Keiran's date and suddenly all he wanted to do was fling himself into Aubrey's arms and cry. When he finally got the door unlocked, Keiran shoved the door and stumbled inside, dripping water everywhere. There was a look of pain and desperation on his face, his eyeliner smudged and quite unattractive. His eyes fell upon his best friend and he just let out of a loud sob, rushing forward without a word of explanation.

Oh god… the moment he saw Keiran, he knew he had been right. The tears, the running make-up… Keiran was a mess and sopping wet because of that… that douche bag. But, for once, Aubrey wished he hadn’t of been right. He would rather have watched Keiran walk through that door, glowing with absolutely happiness at the fact that the date had been great, had been perfect. Aubrey would rather have the boy tell him all about how they went to the movies or to Lake Eola, wherever they went. No matter how it made Aubrey feel, he would rather sit there on his bed with a forced, little smile as Keiran got ready for bed and told him how his date was an absolute gentleman, holding doors open for Keiran and being just an all-around sweet-heart. Aubrey would rather hear that Keiran was treated like a prince and there would most definitely be a second date than hear that he was right… Because being right broke his best friend’s heart and that destroyed his own.
Without so much as a second though, Aubrey slid the guitar off his lap and got up to take his best friend into his arms. He didn’t care that Keiran was soaked to the bone and would get Aubrey wet. He enveloped him in his arms protectively and held him close against his chest. He pressed a kiss to the top of his blonde head and whispered into his hair, “I’m so sorry, baby. I’m so sorry,” because that’s all he could think to say for the moment.
He was distracted by other thoughts. Like what he was going to do to that jerkwad the next time he saw him. It wouldn’t be the first time Aubrey kicked some jerk’s ass for hurting Keiran and he was sure it wasn’t going to be the last, but he’ll be damn sure it’s the last time this particular guy messes with his Keiran. Hardly anyone ever came around for seconds after Aubrey made them eat dirt, grass, or anything. Even when they were kids, Aubrey could remember sitting atop of some poor kid that had picked on his Keiran and forcing him to eat the sand in the sandbox or the wood chippings used to cover the ground around the swing sets.
With his lips set into a thin line, he tilted Keiran’s face up towards his own. Both hands cupped Keiran’s cheeks and he wipped away the tears and the make-up with a gentle stroke of his thumb. “I’ll make them pay, Keiran. Tomorrow they’ll regret doing this to you.” Aubrey was a peaceful man but his voice held the threat of his words as if he were one of the most violent. His mind was made up and no one could change it.

When Keiran slipped into Aubrey's arms to cry, it was as if he'd done it a thousand times before. It may not have literally been a thousand times but it certainly wasn't the first time. His small frame was shivering from the cold of being drenched in rain water but all he could think about was the comforting embrace of his best friend in the entire world. Aubrey was the only person who would never hurt him, wasn't he? It was a depressing thought, to think that he only had one person in his life that he could count on through anything that may come his way.
But Keiran was grateful for Aubrey. He was a fantastic friend and even though he sometimes displayed an odd sort of jealousy for someone that Keiran was interested in, Keiran loved how protective he was. And now, Aubrey was right. Keiran hated to admit that Aubrey was right about the guy that had crushed his heart in his fist, but he was right.
Keiran could only sob helplessly as he looked up at Aubrey's concerned face. His heart was thumping painfully in his chest, thumping with a pain that he was entirely too familiar with. Keiran allowed a small whimper to escape from his lips as he attempted to speak. "I.. I.. Nobody likes me.." He was starting to feel like it was true. That nobody would ever love Keiran for who he was. No one would ever wanted to be with a boy that dressed like a girl.
He wouldn't even try to stop Aubrey from going after someone. Keiran knew better. Once Aubrey had made up his mind to make someone pay for what they'd done, nothing could change it. The young boy simply curled himself up against Aubrey, wishing that he could melt into him and just be warm and safe and happy. "Nobody.. but you.."

Despite his threat, Aubrey couldn’t keep his anger flowing. Even with his thoughts centered around Keiran and his broken heart, he was just relieved to have him back in the dorm, back in his arms. Though, he was used to this. His anger never spiked until he saw the one he wanted to make pay. Did that make him a bad friend? It at least made him just the tiniest bit selfish, didn’t it? He wanted Keiran all to himself but was too afraid to admit it. So, instead, he just hoped that no one worked out for Keiran. Perhaps his ill wishing was the reason Keiran was always hurt…
Gently, Aubrey shook his head and whispered softly, “Baby, that’s not true. Someone out there loves you for who you are and they’re just out there… waiting for you to find them.” And after a moment of silence, the white-haired teenager felt the need to add, “But nobody could love you as much as I do…” His words were weighted with the truth but whether or not Keiran could detect that was a different story. Aubrey just set to work on cleaning Keiran up. Slowly, he pulled away from his best friend and smoothed his hair back before he planted an affectionate kiss to his forehead, perhaps more affectionate than it should have been… Then Aubrey glanced down at him and let a small smile touch his lips, hoping that it would somehow become infectious and grace Keiran’s as well.
“Let’s get you into some dry clothes before you get sick and make me fix you chicken soup.” He moved away from Keiran only to fetch a giant towel. Quietly, Aubrey started to dry Keiran with it – if only a little. He shook out Keiran’s hair (messing it up completely in the process), gingerly wiped his face clean, and wrapped it around his damp, little frame. He then went to find him warm, dry pair of pajamas. He didn’t pay enough attention to whose they were as he handed them to Keiran, only to the fact that they were soft and comfy. It was all that mattered, wasn’t it?

Even as Aubrey tried to comfort him, Keiran didn't feel very comforted by those words. The idea that someone was out there somewhere waiting to love a cross dressing boy just seemed so absolutely absurd to Keiran that it only made him let out a small sob in response. His gaze lowered, plastering upon the floor as he simply listened to Aubrey. Keiran had to admit though, that Aubrey was an amazing friend. Despite the fact that they had argued just before Keiran left for his ill fated date, here Aubrey was, comforting him without a fuss.
When Keiran heard Aubrey remark about how no one could love him the way that he did, he lifted his gaze up to Aubrey. It was probably true. Aubrey was the only person who didn't ask questions.. the only person who would look at Keiran as he twirled in a flowing skirt and tell him that he looked beautiful. Keiran closed his eyes as he felt Aubrey's lips upon his forehead and he took a deep breath. "No one.." His eyes opened slowly and he watched as Aubrey fetched the towel.
No one would love Keiran the way that Aubrey did. So why then, was Aubrey his best friend? It was as if mother nature were going to play a cruel joke on Keiran. Here you go, let's make the road of your life more difficult than anything by giving you a penis but making you want to be with men and making you want to dress like a girl. Hell, let's make it even more interesting by making the only person who will ever love you only want to be your best friend. So close, and yet so far away.
With a soft little whimper, Keiran began to peel his sticky shirt off of his small frame when Aubrey went to fetch some pajamas. He took another deep breath and stared down at his now bare torso for a moment before glancing back up at Aubrey's back. A soft blush claimed his cheeks and he looked away, setting the wet shirt aside. "Thank you, Aubs.. I love you so much."

If anyone were to peek into the lives of Aubrey Valentine and Keiran White, they would see something rather… abnormal. Here you had two friends. Two best friends that were as close as anyone could get to someone. They have shared their lives since they were young kids running around on a playground. They would see just how protective the elder boy was of the younger boy. As they grew older, they just grew closer. Aubrey was always there for Keiran when he needed him. He was the faithful safety net just waiting to catch the other whenever they fell. And Keiran was there for Aubrey when he needed them as well. They helped each other and though that definitely has its positives, it also has a few negatives. Aubrey had become dependent on Keiran whether the other knew it or not. Aubrey didn’t know if there would ever be a night he can sleep if Keiran wasn’t the last person he saw or spoke to. And the selfishness and over-protective trait of Aubrey’s always made him instantly hate whomever Keiran wanted. If anyone were to peek into the lives of Aubrey Valentine and Keiran white, they would see something… that so obviously should be more than friendship.
But they were too blind to realize it.
Aubrey kept his back to Keiran to allow him time to dress and his smile just widened as he heard Keiran. He loved it when Keiran told him he loved him. It made him feel… perfect. Though, he didn’t want to wait forever for his friend to change but he would. He just wanted the other back in his arms. He wanted to curl up with Keiran – his Keiran – and snuggle under the blankets like they normally do. And as soon as he was dressed in the pajamas, Aubrey left no time for him to do something else. In a fluid motion, he scooped Keiran back into his arms and dragged him over to his bed. Aubrey flopped back onto it and settled himself. His arms were wrapped around the other’s waist, holding his little frame against his body with his back against his bare chest. Aubrey was convinced this was the safest place for Keiran. Nothing could harm him as long as Aubrey had him in his arms. Aubrey wouldn’t let anything happen.
“Comfy, baby?” he hummed softly, “I’ll make you warm and happy.” He was still smiling as he raised an arm and tilted Keiran’s face so he could look at him. He couldn’t help it this time. His expression softened into something more somber. Aubrey knew he loved Keiran. He knew he could fix his heart better than anyone else could even hope to. No one could keep him safe, could keep him happy, like Aubrey could. If only Keiran would give him the chance…
It was all written in his expression, in his eyes. His love for Keiran… He couldn’t help it. Slowly, he leaned in like he has done so many times before when he had wanted to plan an innocent kiss on Keiran’s lips. But it didn’t turn out innocent. Aubrey gently kissed Keiran like he never has before.

It was completely natural for Aubrey to wrap his arms about Keiran and to begin to tug him around. It was also completely natural for Keiran to just go along with it. After all, it wasn't like Keiran hated it when Aubrey was strong for him. To anyone who just looked at Aubrey when the boy was complacent, he didn't look like much. He was pale and skinny with a contagious smile. People often tried to judge Aubrey by his cover, which was a huge mistake. Aubrey was stronger than he looked and he had both the bark and bite of a massive dog even though his shifting form was a cute little hedgehog that could fit in Keiran's pocket. It was one of the many things that Keiran loved about Aubrey. He was such a hidden gem.
A hidden gem that Keiran was certain only he fully understood and had the privilege of experiencing. It was the way that Keiran wanted it.
As Keiran settled down on the bed with Aubrey, he couldn't keep a wide smile from slipping across his make up smeared lips. It almost looked as if Keiran hadn't just had his heart broken. The boy took a deep breath and rested both of his hands on top of the arms that were so securely locked about his small frame. When those gentle words trickled to his ears, Keiran could swear that the hair on his arms and neck stood on end. "Mhmm.."
When Aubrey promised things to Keiran, Keiran believed them. He was confident in the fact that Aubrey would make him warm and happy tonight. Such a confident and trust shone in his eyes as he felt his chin being tilted to look up at his best friend. Those eyes locked gazes with Aubrey, but Keiran was a little surprised to see something within Aubrey that he hadn't seen before. Suddenly Keiran's heart sped up like it had done so many times before but this time it was because of an unmistakable realization. Their friendship should be so much more than what it was.. and Keiran could tell that Aubrey was feeling the same way.
Even with this realization, Keiran couldn't keep his eyes from widening slightly as he watched Aubrey lean forward. It was as if the world suddenly started to move in extreme slow motion. His wet lashes fluttered to a close as he felt soft lips against his own. Keiran's breath hitched in his throat, his body wanting to tense up.. but he couldn't. The moment he felt the emotion bubble up it spilled over and he absolutely melted into Aubrey's arms, giving in to the kiss completely.

There was simply no turning back now. This could make or break them and… at the moment, Aubrey couldn’t help but to think that this was for the absolute best. How long have they been together? Why should it change just because they were taking things just a step farther? At this point in time, Aubrey was confident that nothing could tear them apart. They have always been there for each other and they will always be there for each other. That was how it was meant to be. They were meant to be.
His arm gradually tightened around Keiran to keep him secured against his torso and his eyes drifted closed. His gentle touch caressed Keiran’s cheek and his lips lingered just a sweet moment longer against his before he slowly pulled away. Only then did he open his eyes, gaze studying Keiran’s as if he thought his best friend would be repulsed by the action. But still, he softly whispered, “I love you, Keiran… Like… really love you… And you have no idea how long I’ve been wanting to do that.”
He had made a gamble with it. Even though he doubted that anything could separate them, if their relationship met its kryptonite, they will never be able to go back to normal. If Keiran simply rejected him, he could say good bye to everything they share. It wasn’t a secret Aubrey couldn’t take rejection well. Or any type of stress/painful event for that matter. It made his chest tighten, his heart ache… But didn’t that happen to everyone?
Though, none of these doubts were present in his mind. A soft smile touched his lips as he watched Keiran with adoration in his eyes. “It’s why I’ve never liked any of the guys you’ve crushed on,” his voice remained gentle, “They can’t treat you the way you deserve to be treating… The way I can treat you… Like royalty.”

There was absolutely no repulsion in Keiran's expression whatsoever. In fact, the boy wore an expression of serenity mixed with perhaps a little bit of relief. To be here in the arms of his best friend and to be feeling the emotions that he felt.. and to know that they were shared, well, it was an amazing sensation. The heart break that he had felt from his date earlier tonight had simply melted away within a span of just a few short seconds. How could Keiran still feel such pain when he had those soft and caring lips against his own? There was no way. Now all he could feel was his nervous heart softly thumping against his rib cage and the gentle euphoria that was slowly making it's way across his mind.
"Oh God, Aubs.. I love you too! I, like, really love you." A soft tremble overtook Keiran's voice as he spoke those words. It was as if letting them come out in audible form really drove the realization and the point home. Hearing them come out of his lips really settled within his brain he knew that there was absolutely no turning back now. But Keiran didn't want to turn back. Even if he could wind back the hands of time's clock, he wouldn't even try. It was exhausting keeping such emotions inside. Even if this awkward confession between the two of them turned out to not work the way that they hoped, it was better to let it out.
A small smile slowly tugged at the corners of Keiran's lips with the faded red lipstick. Aubrey's gentle touches along his face felt so nice and they were helping to sooth the nervous flutter of his heart. There would be no rejection from Keiran White. There would be only love. A love that was so deep and so much more than being attracted to a pretty face and a lithe frame. Keiran knew that Aubrey was as genuine as the angel perched on a cloud playing a harp. He was as real and as honest with Keiran as the rain that he'd felt against his cheeks earlier.
This was the love that Keiran had wanted and needed and it was right there in front of him the entire time. "Be with me, Aubs.. Be mine.. because.. because I'm yours. From this moment on I am yours in every way.. in.. in all of the ways that I'd imagined in my dreams."

The words that parted Keiran’s lips made Aubrey’s heart flutter in an excited nervousness. It was as if this moment couldn’t have been any more perfect. Fate had given him a hand. It had forced him into an argument with the boy that he loved, made the prick that Keiran had interest in a complete asshole, and sent the broken boy back in to Aubrey’s arms. Was the pale senior happy that the incident had broken Keiran’s heart? No. But did that incident no longer matter to him? Yes. As far as Aubrey was concerned, that broken heart had been restored to perfection, and that was all that mattered to him.
He couldn’t help but to lean in once again, gracing Keiran’s lips with a second kiss. Though, this one didn’t last as long as the first. Aubrey just needed a second taste of the one he loved. “Keiran, you are all I need,” he breathed and held him close, “I couldn’t imagine being with anyone but you.” And it was the truth. Everything Aubrey said to Keiran was the truth. The white-haired male would never think of speaking even a word of a lie because trust was something that was fragile. It was something they shared and he valued more than anything. “I’m yours; I’m all yours,” God, he was so happy, so, so happy and it was evident even if his voice was soft, “We belong with each other, Keiran… We belong together.”
He stroked his fingers through Keiran’s hair and paid gentle affections to his face. There were still random streaks of make up that he was trying to clean off but all the while, there was a smile on his lips. A cheesy thought crossed his mind and he couldn’t help but to blurt it out, “Baby, I’m your Valentine.” His smiled just widened as he watched Keiran, completely content with the world at the moment. He couldn’t have gotten a better deal with fate.
Finally, he pressed his lips to Keiran’s ear and secured his arms about his waist. He was finished with the affections at the moment and just wanted to hold his petit lapin against him for the moment. “Mm.. You said something about dreams?” his whisper held the air of a grin, “Have I been in your dreams?”

The words that spilled from Aubrey's mouth were like music to Keiran's ears. As he stared at his best friend... wait, no... his boyfriend, Keiran could feel his eyes sting with a different kind of tears. They were tears of pure joy and he was certain that Aubrey would know the difference if he noticed them. What person didn't want to hear such sweet things whispered to them when they were alone with the person that they cared about more than anything in the world? "We do.. We belong together.." His voice was a mere whisper, shaky with the heaviness of the moment.
However, as soon as Aubrey let out that horrifically corny line, Keiran rolled his eyes with a big smile. Leave it to Aubrey to use his last name as something as terrible as that. It sounded like the kind of pick up line that would get a guy kneed in the balls at a bar. Yet Aubrey used it. And Keiran smiled. "That.. That was really bad, Aubs. Don't do that again." He laughed softly, dipping his head to nuzzle just underneath Aubrey's chin. Slowly, he reached up to run his fingers along Aubrey's collar bone, allowing himself the exploration to places that he never allowed himself before.
When he was asked about being in Aubrey's dreams though, Keiran blushed lightly. He was glad that his head was tucked safely underneath the older males chin so that it was a little difficult to see. Of course Aubrey had been in his dreams. There were hundreds of times where Aubrey had saved him from something, made him smile, made him cry.. "Yeah.. All the time." Keiran's voice was very soft as he confessed. "I think that it's more often you're in them than you aren't. I've been dreaming about you since we were really little.." Since Aubrey had first shoved a bully's face into the dirt for him.

Aubrey knew he ruined the sweet, sweet moment they had been sharing the moment he uttered that complete cheesy line involving his last name. Yes, he was very aware of the fact that it was horrible, and he knew he probably should have kept it locked away in the corny, little mind of his but he honestly couldn’t help it. That much was obvious. He actually found it a little cute. Though, this happened a lot. Aubrey would come up with an endearing and affectionate line but it would turn out to be the cheesiest thing next to movie nachos. “Can’t promise that, babe,” he grinned. At least Keiran had received it better than most others would have. It earned Aubrey an adorable, soft laugh and a fantastic smile from his… boyfriend.
Boyfriend. It sounded lovely bouncing around inside of Aubrey’s head. It was obvious to him that this had been something they were both wanting for a while now – even if they hadn’t realized it. Aubrey just held Keiran close, chin resting atop the boy’s head. The tickle of his fingers brushing along his collar made a gentle smile settle upon his features. Idly, he allowed slow fingers to ghost of Keiran’s side in one of the most gentle touches Aubrey could administer before he spoke in a calm whisper: “Have I ever told you how snugly you fit in my arms?” The comment may have seemed random but it was true. To Aubrey, Keiran couldn’t have fit any more perfectly against his slender body and inside his grasp.
Knowing that Aubrey takes such a major role in Keiran’s dreams made the older senior smile. He gave Keiran a gentle, affectionate squeeze and allowed his eyes to drift closed. “Will you tell me about a dream,” his voice dripped with pure curiosity and after a moment, he added, “your favorite dream?” Did Keiran dream of this very moment they were sharing? Or did he imagine it would be different? Did he even dream that they would end up together at all?
Aubrey had.
