Jin Li had a fantastic time with his new friend Canyon Pierce at Lake Eola last weekend. Canyon was what Jin was hoping would come his way for a very long time. He was a good friend.. and when Jin was around him, he found himself feeling not so lonely. He felt like maybe there was something worth living for in this world. Was this what normal people felt? Normal people who didn't slit their wrists, normal people who didn't feel like they were worthless?
But Jin couldn't ignore the fact that along with those feelings of happiness for his new found friendship were other feelings that he couldn't quite describe. The small Chinese boy found himself staring up at Canyon with a quickening heart beat that he was fairly certain didn't come along with being around someone who was just your best friend. Jin's little nose wrinkled a little as he crawled into Canyon's lap, having taken on the shape of his Red Panda. His rusty colored tail swished lightly as he did so, big eyes receptive to Canyon's possible reaction to the situation.
Previously Jin had shifted into the panda after having felt a strong urge to do so for no reason and had taken to wandering through the hall of the boys dorm. He spotted Canyon resting against the wall in the hallway and had sniffed his way up to the brunette. Jin couldn't help but wonder if Canyon remembered that Jin shifted into a Red Panda. Did Canyon know that it was Jin who was now crawling into his lap?
The boy made a soft little squeak that was typical to his species. He was nervous, even with the thought that his identity could possibly be masked by the shift. Jin knew that it was probably weird that someone who was so obviously another student in a shift would come up and just crawl into someone's lap, but he couldn't pass up this opportunity. He couldn't pass up this chance to.. to try to figure out what this flutter in his stomach was, or the pang in his chest once his sensitive nose inhaled Canyon's scent. | TAGGED: canyon. NOTES: x3. What was this? Irony? No… But it certainly was something. After all the times Canyon had gotten onto his roommate about forgetting his dorm key, the senior had managed to forget it this time. God, he hoped his roommate had the key this time. He’d hate to have to take this to the headmaster. He’d rather break down the door before he went to him and Canyon really didn’t want to break down the door… Maybe he could find someone good at picking locks… There’s bound to be someone around here who can do it. Hell, his roommate probably could.
But, for now, he was stuck out here. With a huff he turned to lean against the wall beside his door. Slowly, he slid down to sit on the floor, lengthy legs stretched across the hall. There was no one around so he didn’t have to worry about tripping anyone. Though, if no one was going to show up soon, he was going to become bored out of his mind. Canyon didn’t like being alone. For a moment, he pondered going down to Jin’s dorm room to see if he was there. That boy knew how to make Canyon smile and, God, he was as cute as a button. He just absolutely loved being around the sophomore. There was just something about Jin that made Canyon… okay. Since the death, there had been a piece of Canyon missing but now… He didn’t feel like anything was missing. Not when he was around Jin. His feelings were… unexplainable to say the least. He had never felt this way about a friend before.
Just as Canyon was about to get up and make his way down to the second floor, he spotted a little red thing wandering towards him. It took the senior a moment to realize that it was a red panda and by the time he figured it out, the little thing had crawled into his lap. He couldn’t help but to smile at this. He knew exactly who it was. Jin Li. It looked like he didn’t need to go find him because he was right here. Canyon encircled his arms around the creature loosely and gently strokes his hand over his fur. “You’re soft, you know,” he said quietly after he heard him squeak, “And adorable.” Already Canyon had told him that hundreds of times. Even if it was just his animal shift, Jin felt perfect in Canyon’s arms…
And he didn’t want to leave Jin all alone. Slowly, the senior began to shift into his own animal form. Within seconds, there were two wild animals sitting in the hallway and if this was any other school, it would have been quite the spectacle: a giant panda lazing against the wall with his legs sprawled out as he clung to a little red bunch of fur.

The little red panda let out a nervous yet appreciative squeak upon hearing those compliments from Canyon. If a panda could blush, Jin would have. Canyon had told Jin on several different occasions that he thought Jin was cute but for some reason it made him a little more flustered this time. Jin still didn't realize that Canyon was certain who the panda was, which should have given him confidence. But Jin was such a lonely and socially inept little boy that there would be absolutely no way to keep his heart from pounding as quickly as a mouse.
He was a little surprised when Canyon began to shift into his giant panda form. Did Canyon know that it was Jin? Or was he simply this friendly and comfortable around anyone that he came across? The two boys hadn't really known each other very long so Jin honestly couldn't be certain. Even despite these thoughts Jin couldn't deny that Panda Canyon was so soft.. so comforting.. so inviting. He quickly curled up into Canyon's fur and looked up at him with timid little eyes.
Jin couldn't deny that somehow this felt more comfortable than he'd felt in several years. He finally had a best friend. He finally had someone who cared about him and wanted to see him smile. Jin wasn't too sure if Canyon saw him as a best friend but that didn't really matter. Jin was perfectly content with Canyon being his best friend. If Canyon had someone else, it was okay.
He hadn't quite gotten around to telling Canyon about his depression and his tendency to cut his wrists but Jin had gotten the feeling a couple of times that Canyon knew anyway. It was as if Canyon could somehow see into Jin's soul. Or maybe Jin just hadn't been good enough to hide his scars. But somehow the idea of Canyon knowing his secret didn't make Jin feel anxious. It didn't make him want to crawl in a hole and hide.
When he was cuddled up to this gentle giant panda, Jin Li felt like he was truly safe and that finally someone cared about him. | TAGGED: canyon. NOTES: x3. LYRICS: "episode" by versailles. CREDIT: rissa of ote ! |

Honestly, Canyon had no idea where this was going to go now. It wasn’t like he could speak to Jin in his animal shift. Though, he supposed he could just sit here and hold him. Quietly, he wondered what had brought Jin up here. Why had he crawled into his lap? It wasn’t that Canyon didn’t want him in his lap – in fact, it was quite the contrary. Canyon felt that Jin fit perfectly in his arms. Which was… something he never expected to say about another boy. Honestly, Jin has left him questioning quite a few things about himself. He honestly didn’t know what to do about it. He just felt… more at ease around Jin. He felt like how he used to around December.
But… But better.
Yeah, he still worried about Jin because he knew – well… he assumed – that the younger boy was… was… cutting. There were hundreds of signs that pointed to it but still… He hasn’t seen anything so he couldn’t be sure. He just had that feeling… And he knew that Jin was happy around him. At least he thought Jin was. He was pretty sure… And even though he hasn’t know Jin that long, he knows he wants to spend more time with him. Already the sophomore was one of his best friends. He just… He…
He wanted more.
It was an odd realization he had. He wasn’t completely sure but he was… starting to believe it. There really weren’t any better ways to describe it. He wanted… more with Jin. He… He was pretty sure he had a crush on Jin. He wasn’t stupid. He knew what it felt like to be crushing on someone. It’s just.. He’s never crushed on a guy before. He didn’t feel like this toward Graham or Kai… Just Jin. But still… He wasn’t really sure. God, he didn’t even have a clue if this was how Jin felt. For all he knew, Jin was completely straight. Then again, he also thought that he was completely straight.
Life was about taking risks. And if Jin freaked out on him, Canyon could always make up some kind of excuse as to why does what he does. But he just had to figure out his own feelings first.
A smile glittered in his eyes as he leaned down and touched his nose to Jin’s itty one.

It was difficult to keep his teeny little red panda body in check when Canyon was being so gentle with him. No one had ever treated Jin this way before. No one had ever been so friendly, nice, and genuinely caring. Most importantly, no one had ever touched him this way--physically or mentally. His little furry body trembled slightly as he stared up at Canyon beautifully constructed panda face. A small squeak slipped from his mouth and he clung to the senior without even realizing he was doing it.
As Canyon leaned forward and touched their noses together, however, Jin's mind went into overdrive. He squeaked again, little eyes widening. He could feel his heart begin to pound in his tiny chest with an erratic sort of nervousness that suddenly bubbled its way to the surface. Even as a red panda Jin still had complete control over his human mind and he knew without a shadow of a doubt that if he could, he would be blushing. This boy.. this fantastic and handsome boy that was holding him close.. Jin realized it was what he wanted.
Jin was utterly and seriously crushing on Canyon Hart Pierce. Never in a million years did the small Asian juggle the possibility that he could be homosexual but it all came crashing down onto him at once. He never looked at girls like that. Jin had never wanted to kiss them. But he also thought about his father.. the man who already hated him because Jin wanted to be a chef instead of a stereotypical Asian doctor. Jin's father would hate him even more if he told him he liked a boy. So.. Jin decided that he wouldn't.
But now that Jin knew how he felt about Canyon, what was next? Their noses were touching and honestly, Jin didn't know if he could handle something so intimate if he weren't hidden behind his panda shift. But as he sat there with his cold little nose against Canyon's, Jin also realized that he wanted to kiss him. Well, scratch that. Jin realized that he wanted to be kissed. Of course, Jin wouldn't kiss someone on his own. He was entirely too timid and beside that fact, who said that Canyon even liked him that way?
Unfortunately for Jin (or maybe fortunately!), his mind began to run on auto-pilot without asking him what to do. Slowly his body began to change its shape and he returned back to Jin. His almond shaped eyes were wide and now the nervousness was all too evident in his expression as he sat there with his nose to an extremely large panda bear. | TAGGED: canyon. NOTES: x3. Even in his panda form, Canyon could still feel the little thing in his arms tremble. The red ball of fluff couldn’t have any idea how adorable Canyon thought this was. How could someone be so cute? How could Canyon be feeling this way about Jin? He had always thought himself to be heterosexual and nothing more. He had always looked at girls… Though, now that he thought about it, he couldn’t remember being too sexually attracted to them. Even December. He had to establish such a strong connection and an unbreakable bond before he found himself wanting her in the slightest. But with Jin… He already wanted more than what they shared… Could it be possible for Canyon to be… gay?
At the moment… he wasn’t doubting it.
But what about Jin? He didn’t want to just throw away their friendship so quickly. If Jin didn’t feel the same way, it might ruin everything. Though, with the endearing, little squeaks he let slip and the trembling, clinging body, Canyon could assume that Jin… might have felt the same way. It was a risky thing to assume but… this was Canyon. He was Canyon for a reason. The boy never let anything deter him from what he wanted. He wanted at least a friendship with Jin so even if he did manage to royally screw it up somehow he’d still try. That was just how he was.
Canyon thought it was his duty to save the world one teenager at a time. And if he was correct in assuming that Jin might have a problem, he wanted the little sophomore to be the first he helped. Jin deserved it; he was so sweet and kind and cute and adorable and endearing. And loving. Oh-so-very loving. He deserved to be loved in return and if he would allow it, Canyon could give him all of that and more. He just knew it…
After the younger boy reverted back to his human form, Canyon just waited for a moment. His nose didn’t leave contact with Jin’s and his dark eyes, hidden within the black circles of fur just peered out at him curiously. Sweetly. He held Jin within the soft, furry, safe arms of his for a moment longer before gradually starting to transform back as well. Slowly, a smile started to slip across his lips. Canyon tilted his head slightly so their foreheads touched gently.
“Hey…”

Jin could swear that Canyon was able to hear his heart beat pounding so fiercely within his chest. The Asian boy found that it was hard to concentrate on anything else. Well, except for Canyon's beautiful eyes. It wasn't like Canyon has some spectacular hue to them or anything but it was really about the look that Jin often found within them. It was a look of understanding, gentleness, and affection. It was a look within Canyon's eyes that told Jin that the senior was genuinely happy to be in his presence and he wasn't just counting away the seconds until he could get Jin off of his lap and get the hell out of this hallway.
When Canyon spoke to him again, Jin felt his heart skip a beat. It was the first word that he'd heard from Canyon since Jin had realized how he felt for the older boy and for some unexplainable reason it sounded like heaven this time. Just that simple 'hey' caused a happy yet nervous little smile to spread across Jin's lips. His dark eyelashes fluttered in response, welcoming the warmth of Canyon's body as their foreheads touched. "H-Hey.." It was obvious the poor boy was nervous but there was absolutely no denying the fact that he liked what was going on between the two of them.
Jin quickly found that he couldn't really do much of anything. His brain told him that he should do something.. anything.. Perhaps reached up and touch Canyon's arm gently. But he found that he couldn't. It wasn't that didn't want to but he simply was just too nervous. There was always that thought nagging in the back of his mind. What if Canyon didn't like him that way? What if Canyon was just being friendly?
If only Canyon could just do something to show Jin what he was thinking or what he was feeling.. | TAGGED: canyon. NOTES: x3. LYRICS: "episode" by versailles. CREDIT: rissa of ote ! |

Even from the beginning, Canyon had an unexplainable attraction to the boy in his lap. Before they were friends, he had always wanted to try and strike up a friendship, and now he was starting to wish he had gotten around to that sooner than he did. Jin was a great friend to have and as adorable as anyone could be. Yes, he did have his flaws but they just made him even more endearing. Canyon just… He just wanted to hold and cuddle and love him and never ever let him go. Canyon wanted Jin to be happy. To honestly be happy. It was undeniable, the feelings Canyon had for him… And he couldn’t believe he hadn’t realized them sooner. Their friendship was still oh-so-very new but… but he knew how he felt now.
Everything was telling Canyon that it was okay to confess that he may just have a crush on little, cute Jin. There wasn’t a sign that whispered any doubts into his ear. Jin was… nervous. That much was obvious. And that was good, wasn’t it? It meant that he could feel this attraction, too… didn’t it? Why else would Jin be in his lap? Why else would he sit so perfectly still against Canyon as their foreheads touched and they gazed into each other’s eyes? Jin’s smile mimicked Canyon’s, even…
It was a good think Canyon was a man of impulses. At least it was at this moment…
He raised a hand and cupped Jin’s cheek in it, his thumb stroking along the arch of the bone. “Jin…” his voice didn’t reach above a whisper and he spoke slowly and carefully as if each word would break if he didn’t say it exactly right, “I know… I know that we haven’t been friends for very long but…” he paused for a moment, trying to think of how to put it… And when he couldn’t find the perfect words, he just slowly leaned in to press a gentle kiss to Jin’s lips without a second thought.

Despite the fact that he wanted to be kissed Jin was a very naive sixteen year old boy and he totally didn't see this particular kiss coming. His first kiss. Ever. Jin's almond shaped eyes widened only momentarily, his hands coming up to gently rest upon the side of Canyon's arms. Slowly, he closed them and allowed himself to bask in the sweet yet nervous little moment the two of them were sharing. A first kiss was a big deal and Jin was going to enjoy it.
His head began to spin with all of the possibilities that suddenly lay before him. This kiss.. it could mean so much for the two of them. It could mean things that Jin had never imagined he would ever experience with a person of the same gender.. things that he had never even thought about for even a split second with a female. The petit Chinese boy did kiss back. He knew that he would be absolute fool not to.
But then Jin realized that he would have to face the moment after the kiss ended. His cheeks were stained a beautiful shade of rose red as he gently broke the tender contact between the two of them. Once again his eyes opened to gaze nervously at the older male in front of him. Jin wanted to speak but he found that he couldn't find the words to say. There were butterflies in his stomach and because of those butterflies, all he could do was smile.
After a few moments, Jin leaned forward and rested his head upon Canyon's shoulder. He wrapped his arms around Canyon in about as bold of a move as Jin would get so early on. There seemed to be a permanent little smile plastered on his lips as he stared out at the hallway in front of him. He then whispered softly. "I.. I really like you.." | TAGGED: canyon. NOTES: x3. This… kiss was unlike any other Canyon had given or been given. The senior didn’t know exactly what it was about it. Maybe it was the slight innocence to it. Or perhaps it was the fact that it was with Jin and not December. It was with a boy… and not a girl. Whatever it was, Canyon was enjoying it. He could sense that little spark that he just now realized he had been missing before. Maybe… he wasn’t so straight after all. Well, obviously, he wasn’t now. And he didn’t mind that fact one bit at the moment; because he was happy. Jin was happy.
As the kiss ended and he opened his eyes to gaze down at the little sophomore still in his lap, he couldn’t help but to wonder… was this Jin’s very first kiss? And if not who else had he been with? If it was, Canyon felt a little bad that he couldn’t give Jin his own very first kiss as well. Though, it was his very first kiss with a boy. Maybe that would count for something? It didn’t matter too much at the moment. All that mattered was that it had happened and this was the start of something new.
He wrapped his arms around Jin and clasped his hands together behind his back. A wide, happy smile had stretched across his face and there was even a faint blush dusting his cheeks. It wasn’t nearly as dark as Jin’s adorable blush but it was still a little noticeable. And at Jin’s confession, Canyon couldn’t help but to give him an affectionate, little squeeze. “I really like you, too, Jin,” there was a perpetual smile in his voice, “You’re just so… cute and loving and adorable and sweet and, and, and… so much more that I can’t even find the words for at the moment.”

Jin was in a state of perpetual happiness. Nothing could bring him down from his little cloud now that he knew that Canyon felt the same way that he felt about Canyon. This meant so many different things to Jin. It meant an end to his loneliness. It meant that he would get a little bit of affection. It also meant that Jin could be himself, he could be who he was and he knew that Canyon would be interested and caring and patient. Slowly he lifted his head to look at Canyon with that little blushing, smiling up at him.
"I'm very happy right now.. I.. I don't know what to say." Jin wasn't very good with words. He suddenly wanted to run to the nearest kitchen and bake Canyon everything under the sun and feed it to him one by one. But then a thought washed over Jin's little body. What did this make him and Canyon? Were they.. were they boyfriends? Or.. were they just friends who liked each other? Jin didn't want to be just friends. That much was readily apparent. But he was too shy and too nervous to even bring up such a topic so he would wait until or if Canyon ever brought it up himself.
But then looked down at his wrists with the scars hidden underneath the thin fabric of his shirt. If they liked each other.. if they became close or more than what they already were, Jin knew that he would have to be open and honest with Canyon. He wanted to open with Canyon. Even though Jin knew that Canyon was a kind and caring person the paranoia still nagged at his chest. He couldn't help but be afraid that Canyon would decide he didn't like Jin anymore if he learned that Jin cut himself. But Jin knew that he needed to tell him.

The fact that Jin was happy made Canyon happy. The senior always put people before himself and he thrived off of their success more than he did his own. But with Jin, he was allowed a little bit of selfishness. While he was still putting Jin before himself, he could relish in the idea that he had been the one to cause it. Because of the kiss, because of the confession because of the, the, the… dark room, the pizza, the lunch at the lake. Because of everything. It all aided into coaxing a little smile and the cutest blush out of the red panda sat in his lap. They were together – or at least that’s what Canyon assumed – and that’s all that mattered at the moment. Canyon wasn’t one hundred percent sure how long they would last. Things like that were always iffy. But at least they could enjoy it while it did last and they could enjoy it together. Life was about taking risks and living in the moment and that was exactly what Canyon had planned on doing.
With a curious glint in his evergreen eyes, Canyon tilted his head to the side and watched Jin. “What do you need to tell me?” Whatever it was, it made Jin stutter. What was he nervous about? A sinking feeling settled in the pit of Canyon’s stomach. This… didn’t sound good. “You know you can tell me anything, right?” Quickly, a list of ideas as to what it could possibly be ran through Canyon’s mind: I like you, but we can’t be together; I already have a boyfriend; Canyon, I cut. Though, the last one was just a suspicion Canyon had had for a while. It was just the way the boy seemed to act. He was always pulling the sleeves farther and farther down on his arms. Canyon had no idea as to what his life at home was like. Everyone had his or her secrets after all. Everyone had their reasons. He had learned that with December. But he didn’t want to assume that everyone he met was like the petite blonde.
Canyon was hoping that what Jin was about to tell him wasn’t any of those things.
