Chastity Leia Scott sighed as she stared around the drama room. The door was propped open, the lights were on, and the room seemed... bare and empty. The walls were cold and pale, and needed more posters and playbills, and there were no students in the seats. Really she should've expected this. After all, theater isn't always terribly popular.
With a quick sigh and a rub of her face, the little girl climbed up onto the makeshift stage at the front of the classroom, and, even though it wasn't a real stage, she instantly felt a wave of confidence crash over her. It flooded her veins and overloaded her brain. The monologue she'd been learning inside and out for weeks immediately jumped into her mind and the emotions began to spill into her. Chaos, confusion, sorrow, and a twinge of excitement... Jazzy thought, closing her eyes and feeling each individually before combining them all in her mind.
Breathing deeply, she opened her eyes and stared out at the empty classroom, her heart pounding as she opened her mouth.
"Have you ever had a dream and suddenly, you realize what's happening doesn't make any sense - and you realize that you're dreaming. And you realize: if you know that you're dreaming, then you can control what's going to happen next?" She spoke quickly, a little frantically, shuffled her feet as she spoke, and then paused.
"When I have an episode, it's exactly like that-" Taking a deep breath, she cast her eyes about and bit her lip, then said, "only backwards."
As she ran through the monologue, her emotions ran wild. Some parts were slow, others were fast, some frantic, others sad. Everything fell into place perfectly and beautifully for the monologue.
"But... I've never been okay... I'll never be okay..." her voice was weak and sad and broke a couple of times as she spoke.
Finally, she slowly sat on her knees at the end of the stage and swung her legs over the edge, propping her elbows on her knees and holding her face in her hands.
"I will always be one bad day away from suicide... Until I'm dead. I spend my life trying to delay what I know... is inevitable..." Her voice strained faintly to break through between her fingers as she covered her face, and a few tears dripped down her arms.
She sat there for several moments, breathing heavily, her face still in her hands.
