( think of me in the depths of your despair )
Pizza sounded like a genius idea. It had been months since Canyon has had something like that and now that Jin mentioned it… He wasn’t sure if he could wait. Maybe Jin would allow him to whisk him away for pizza like… right now. He didn’t work tonight so he wasn’t exactly sure what he was going to do for dinner, anyway. The last time he played around with the left overs in the fridge, he ended up… Well, it just wasn’t pretty. He thought that his mini-fridge might not be working properly. If one didn’t keep their eyes on the temperature, it would suddenly rise for some odd reason. That’s what you get for keeping the same one for all four years, though, he guessed.
“Pizza… Sounds amazing right now,” he hesitantly admitted, unsure if Jin would take him there tonight or not. He didn’t know where it was but it might not be such a hard thing to find if Jin didn’t want to come. “Like, I could go for it right now. I haven’t had pizza in a really long time.” He dropped his gaze to Jin, wondering if he’d understand just what he was hinting at. Why did they have to wait to have an awesome time? Yeah, they could spend all day in town but why couldn’t they go for something to eat right now?
Canyon started to hurry the process of developing film. He didn’t feel comfortable leaving the pictures here by themselves. It would just take a little longer… “I’d like to go around down town and a library sounds nice. I could pick up some books I haven’t read.” And probably won’t finish but he wasn’t going to tell Jin that. If he wanted to go to the library, Canyon wouldn’t stop him. He didn’t mind tagging along.
He felt the contact on his arm before he realized what it was. Slowly, his smile widened across his mouth and he glanced down at Jin once more. He didn’t mind the touch and he wanted to let Jin know that. In fact… He enjoyed the touch. The way Jin clung to his arm made him feel secure. It made him feel as if he were needed. Who didn’t enjoy that feeling? “Of course we will have fun!” he chuckled at the idea of not having fun. Did Jin suspect he was some kind of party-pooper? Not this senior. “I don’t think you have to worry, Jin-Jin. We’re going to be good friends,” he paused as he took in the idea of Jin cooking for them, a thoughtful glint in his gaze. “… You know, I don’t think I’d mind that. If you want to cook us lunch, we can eat it at Lake Eola. Like a… Like a sort of picnic.”
Noooo. That totally didn’t sound like a date. Right? Right…?

( i'm drowning and only you can save me ) Jin may be a naive little boy, but he wasn't stupid. It was very easy for him to realize that Canyon was hinting at going to get pizza for dinner tonight and this made a dark blush cling to his cheeks and his mouth opened slightly, hanging there as if he were a very flustered boy. But he was eager for company and he really liked Canyon and wanted this friendship more than he really even knew. "W-We could go get pizza tonight!" It came out in almost a little squeak, his attempt to mask how eager he was utterly failing.
Now he was a little embarrassed instead of just flustered. Feeling the warmth pestering his cheeks, Jin did the first thing that came to his mind. He turned away from Canyon, placing both palms on the edge of the table and glanced down at the photographs sinking in the solution. It was obvious he wasn't trying to be mean. He was just not good at such social situations.
On top of that, there was something about Canyon. It was something that Jin couldn't quite place. It made Jin briefly wonder what kind of shift that Canyon had. Was it a gentle, fluffy animal or was it big and scary? Perhaps Canyon's shift was majestic and beautiful. Jin thought of his own shift. It was a red panda, hardly anything intimidating. So even if someone were making him uncomfortable it wasn't like he could warn them to back off because his shift was a fearsome tiger.
His eyes slowly trailed down to both of his hands, then to the hidden wrists. Jin sighed softly, wondering if he could ever stop cutting himself. Could he become happy enough if he had a friend? Could Canyon help him find that inner peace and satisfaction in life? Timidly, Jin glanced over his shoulder but didn't turn his head too far. It was almost as if he were waiting for Canyon to come to him but Jin wasn't that sort of person. He didn't want to lead people into things. He was just genuinely nervous.
"I.. I would like to cook us lunch." He still hadn't turned to look at Canyon again. "I could make us something Chinese.."

( think of me in the depths of your despair )
With Jin’s sudden burst of eagerness to the idea of going out for pizza, Canyon decided to pay a little more attention to his photographs. It wasn’t that he didn’t enjoy the other’s happiness at the idea. He just wanted to get this finished so they could actually go somewhere. Canyon didn’t feel comfortable leaving December’s pictures out where anyone could see them. He wasn’t too far from finishing, either. In fact, he could probably go ahead and hang them now.
“Mmkay, we can go in a second. Let me dry these and then we can go,” his voice held his smile and even though Jin couldn’t see him, he must have known. Canyon peeked into the buckets that held his film to see how they were turning out. Of course, they were turning out well. Canyon was surprised by what he saw on the film. It was mostly nature photography, but there were also glances of a smiling December and flashes of Canyon. There was even a giant panda trying to climb the football field post… The girl with snow-white hair held the faintest of smiles compared to Canyon’s, but the only sadness in the pictures were hidden somewhere in those electric eyes.
Absently, Canyon wondered what Jin’s shift was as he hung the pictures onto the drying line like someone would their clothes. He bet it was something small and fluffy. Something adorable beyond belief because that’s how Jin seemed to be. Maybe he was something like… Like a fluffy, black rabbit. Or maybe he was a pretty kitty. What about some kind of small dog? Like a Beagle or something? Maybe a Shiba Inu! They were fluffy, weren’t they? Whatever it was, it probably fit him well. Though, me might be a big bear like Canyon was a Giant Panda. This made his smile widen. If Jin were a big bear – maybe a black bear or something – it would still be cute because he was so small.
Though as Jin started to talk about lunch, Canyon became distracted. Chinese? That sounded fun. His parents were fans of foreign cuisine so they often times tried to make dinners based around whatever culture they wanted to experience. “I wouldn’t mind a Chinese lunch,” he glanced over at Jin and noticed his back was turned to him. That made Canyon feel a little… down, but he decided not to say anything about it. Maybe Jin was busy with his own photography. “What kind of lunch? What would you cook, I mean?”
