Ready, OK! Pump, pump pump it up, pump that spirit pump it up! Adare mouthed the words to the cheer as she threw her arms up into the air. This was the easy part. Her iPod played a recording of the team practicing and she tried her best to get every move perfect. It was the only way to perform, after all – perfectly. Five, six, seven, eight… And the beginning bars of their dance number filled her ears. She sailed through the first few measures, hitting the moves right on, until she got to the chorus. At this point, she was supposed to do a back hand spring.
Instead, she bounced backwards, promptly landing on her ass. ”Owww…” The girl muttered to herself before standing back up, pressing the ‘back’ button on the pink gadget, and starting over. She would get this right if it took her all afternoon. She would do her homework later, this was more important. Adare pasted a smile back onto her face and straightened her spine. She yelled out loud this time, briefly thinking of how embarrassing it would be if her brothers would see her cheering to an imaginary crowd.
She landed her back hand spring this time, but completely botched up the moves that came afterward. And she couldn’t practice part of it, because to do a basket toss, you needed a basket. Adare could just shift and do some fancy flying, but that would be cheating, and it took too long. She was going to get this right the old fashioned way – with hard work and lots of elbow grease. Wait, are those the same thing? She tightened her hair bow and started over. Again. Because she could do it, if she tried. ”V-I-C-T-O-R-Y!” She yelled, and pressed play.
Five minutes later, Adare’s battery – both the one fueling her iPod and the sugar fueling her smile – ran out. She stayed on the ground after a failed back hand spring, staring at the high ceiling.
* * * thoughts;; i'm not a cheerleader, so these aren't that creative. Gomenasai.

Breathless laughter escaped Asia as she charged down the sidewalk. Glancing back at her pursuer, the junior narrowly avoided colliding with a bench. She skirted to the side at the last minute, crossing over a lawn and around the corner of one of the school buildings. Asia dodged into an open door, looking around quickly before picking a route. She took off just as the heavy footsteps could be heard approaching from outside. No running in the halls. The thought occurred to her as she sprinted past the classrooms, causing her small smile to spread into a grin. She was only vaguely aware of where she was going, turning corners and going through doors with barely a pause. She entered the gym without really intending too, since the only other set of doors led back outside. Asia didn't want to turn around though, so she decided to take her chances. With her eyes lock on the far set of doors, it wasn't exactly surprising that she didn't see the person laying right across her path. Who takes naps in the middle of a gym? She stopped before her foot connected with the body, but she had been going too fast and leaning too far forward to stop quite that suddenly.
Asia jumped (ungracefully, and with some arm flailing) at the last minute and instinctively tucked and rolled. She scrambled up, as quickly as she could, into a kneeling position and looked around to see the damage. As soon as she was sure that everyone was uninjured, Asia burst into laughter. She fell onto her side, letting the absurdity of the entire situation wash over her. When she had regained control she rolled back onto her knees and faced the girl, who must think her completely insane by now.
”I'm sorry! I was running from..., and I didn't see you there, and I wasn't... looking where I was going...” She hoped that her watery eyes and the interspersed laughs didn't cheapen the apology at all. Now that she had a chance to seriously look at the girl, she realized her luck at finding a student rather than a teacher here in the gym. This girl looked familiar, too. ”I'm Asia. We have Government together. Again, I'm really sorry.” Asia smiled, then got up and brushed off her clothes: a black tank top and dark green cargo pants. Good “running away” clothes. Speaking of which... Asia walked over to the door and peeked into the hallway. Deserted. Grinning, Asia returned to her fellow Junior.
There was no way the guy could find her in the school. Honestly, she doubted he'd even bother coming inside. It was only trespassing after all. So what if it was for the fifth or sixth or tenth time? Not that anyone knew it was that many. No, there was plenty of space between them. Relaxing with that knowledge, Asia focused her attention on making sure she hadn't made any new enemies.

”Oh, gawd!” Adare squeaked as the girl jumped over her. Sitting up quickly, she took the white ear buds out, and blinked rapidly. Nothing broken, nothing bleeding. Good. She laughed a bit, awkwardly, with the other girl. She could only imagine what she had been running from. A boy she didn’t like? A teacher? The cops? A giant robot that looked like a hamster and shot lasers from its eyeballs? It was unexpected, to say the least. When you’re lying on the gym floor like a fool, though, you couldn’t expect to be left to nap in peace. Still, for Asia to be laughing like a maniac after that rather… interesting jump, it was a little weird. Bright side, she had an opportunity to talk to someone she hadn’t yet. ”Don’t sweat it,” Adare said, with a friendly smile. ”No one got hurt. I’m Adare. Nice to meet you! I have to admit, you need to work on your landing.” She laughed lightly, to make it clear she was joking. She didn’t want to insult anyone, because that almost always started drama. There had been enough drama in her life during middle school.
”I have to admit, I sleep through most of that class. Social Studies aren’t really my thing.” Adare stood, brushing off the butt of her little blue shorts, trying to be subtle about it. It still ached a bit from so many screwed up flips and jumps, but she could deal with it. Asia’s obviously an athlete, and I don’t want to look like no wimp. ‘Cause I’m not one. It sounded stale, even in her thoughts. Adare had spent so much time establishing the strong, not-nerdy girl image to separate herself from her family, she was almost scared to show weakness now. She held out her hand for the other junior to shake.
* * * thoughts;; Sorry these are a little short. :/ I’m too used to the two hundred words on other sites. This is a good challenge, though!

I think I need to go play the Lotto. I'm just overflowing with luck today! If you're going to go sailing over somebody, it had best be a lighthearted person of your own age group. The absolute lack of malice put Asia at ease. She didn't know how she would have handled a person getting angry at her over the entire incident. The chase had exhilarated her and put her in high spirits; she would have hated to lose that in a flurry of hard feelings. To be faced with this smiling face of instant forgiveness was definitely preferable. Never mind that Adare was probably thinking she was a lunatic. That was beside the point.
Coming off of the thrill of the run, Asia's expression settled into quiet contentment. Of course, being chased was nothing compared to being the chaser. She was a predator, after all. The satisfaction she got from outrunning a security guard was dulled by that little fact. ”And you need to work on finding a bed. I thought all the students had dorm rooms here?” She flashed a grin following the statement; it was obvious she was returning the joking jab. There wasn't much that could get Asia angry; even the most pointed insult bounced off of her thick skin. She shook Adare's hand briefly as she spoke. ”No one likes Socials. American government isn't exactly riveting stuff. The sciences, now. That's where it's at.” Asia was currently in Honors Biology, and she adored it. If all went according to her loose, still-under-construction plan, she would like to become an ecologist. But those were thoughts for another day.
Now that apologies and introductions were out of the way, Asia took stock of the gym. Apart from the iPod in Adare's hand, there was nothing in the gym to suggest that Adare had been doing anything prior to Asia's arrival. Well, there was a lot a person could do that didn't require equipment, alone, with music. She looked back at Adare, her gray-blue eyes flashing with sudden insight. ”You're a cheerleader.” It was such an abrupt, definitive statement that Asia felt compelled to follow it with something to make it seem more... normal. ”I knew I remembered you from somewhere else. I saw you guys practicing before. I was out running.” She knew that Adare wouldn't remember seeing her on that occasion, due to the fact that Asia had been running as her shift. African Wild Dogs were memorable, though. She wondered if Adare had noticed the wild canid and was putting it together.
ooc:: Sorry for making up the past event. I just assumed that the squad would practice outside at some point. Let me know if you'd like it amended.
