Danny yawned as he shuffled into the commons for breakfast that morning, wishing he could've stayed in bed for a little while longer. He'd spent the night before working his ass off, and after a shower he'd done homework until three in the morning. Usually he'd eat at home, save him some time, but after a fight with his father (which made him sport a nice bruise on his neck, the reason he was wearing a scarf today) he had been all too eager to leave the house.
Moving slowly through the room, he stood in line with his tray, mumbling vague thank you's when his food was given to him, the boy giving a few coins - most of what he had - in exchange for some fresh fruit and tea, something that would hopefully make him wake up. It wasn't much, but it was better than what the school offered, and he needed good energy if he wanted to last the day, not something high on calories that would make him fall asleep even before lunch.
As he went to put his tray on a table a boy came up to him, whispering something cheeky into his ear that made him freeze up for a moment, a polite excuse on his lips that didn't make it to actually formed words when the boy continued, telling him in no uncertain terms what he wanted to do to him. Grey eyes looked around desperately for an escape, and found one in tiny Nicki Michigan, a freshman he'd talked to maybe once or twice before. "I uh, I have a boyfriend!" He claimed, pulling the boy towards him and wrapping his arms around him in a fierce hug. "See!" Please play along..

Honestly, Nicki despised the food here. It was all meat, even for breakfast. Sighing, the freshman rummaged through the bottom of his school bag, looking for his wallet. It had to be here somewhere... After a few moments, he managed to retrieve it from the depths of the black hole known as his backpack, then swung the pack back onto his shoulder and sighed, heading over to the little store to get a salad. If he got some good dressing on it, he supposed it wouldn't be too bad... He could have had breakfast in the dorms, but he hadn't felt like it. Most of the stuff he had holed up in his room was junk food, and that wasn't good for breakfast. His stash was just for when he was feeling upset, after all, so he didn't mind suffering through a school breakfast. Even if it was only a salad, at least it was food. Nicki hated trying to learn on an empty stomach. The tiny kid sat down at one of the tables, opening the little container of leafy green stuff and picking at it with a fork. It really didn't seem that appetizing, but then again, neither did the stuff that they were serving in line.
He was vaguely aware that someone sat down a few feet away from him, but he didn't look up. He didn't know many people at this school anyway... The word boyfriend reached his ears as he chewed on a piece of salad, and then suddenly he was being pulled next to someone. What the hell? ”Hey!” he yelped, tilting his chin up to look at who had grabbed him. Oh... it was this guy. They had talked a few times, but... why had he mentioned a boy friend? He looked up at the older boy, confused, his mouth puckering in a little pout. ”Uhm... Danny, who's he?” he asked, gesturing to the boy that had been whispering in Danny's ear. Well, this was awkward... very, very awkward. Danny was starting to look panicky, and he had been sort of paying attention when the other guy had been whispering in Danny's ear... oh, boy. This should be interesting, if not extremely embarrassing. He just hoped that he wasn't misunderstanding what Danny wanted him to do. Though he probably was, seeing as he had no idea what Danny had been telling the older student. Just return the hug, right?
The tiny freshman twisted around in Danny's arms, wrapping his own arms around the taller boy's neck. ”Is this what I'm supposed to be doing?” he asked quietly, hoping that only Danny could hear him. Shit, if he had misunderstood... well, that would be bad. Very bad. Luckily, little Nicki wasn't going to do much more than cuddle. He was sadly inexperienced when it came to relationships.

He had been holding his breath until Nicki spoke, and with it came a breath of gratitude, his arms briefly tightening around the boy as he resisted a nuzzle. It would have been a sign of his appreciation, not just for show, but he managed to stop himself, instead just holding him tight and muttering a happy "Hi baby". He had no idea if Nicki was gay or not, but he was sweet and had seemed like the right option for such a ruse, provided the freshman caught on. Which, luckily, he did. "Yes, thank you" He whispered it back under his breath, giving him a soft intimate smile before turning slightly towards the other, with Nicki still attached to him.
"So, as I said, boyfriend." He faked a smile, almost glowering daggers at the other and hoping Nicki would do the same. He hated guys like this, who just came up to him and assumed that they could have a good time. He hated being known as the school slut, and what was it with guys this time of year? Did they not get laid during the summer? Looking at this particular one, he doubted he'd ever gotten any action, but still, he was what? Six foot? Six one? Compared to Nicki and him, the guy was huge, so he sincerely hoped the boy would just wander off and save face.
He held his breath for another second, until the guy shrugged, turned around, and threw an insult over his shoulder before leaving. Something about him not being worth it, and Danny stiffened for a moment, glad for Nicki's arms around him because he'd been tempted to hurl his lunch tray at the bulky brunette. Instead he turned to face Nicki again, hugging him tighter for another second, before gently kissing his cheek in thanks, not yet daring to let go in case the boy was still watching.

Baby? Oh, this wasn't good... Nicki hoped with all his heart that Danny was just pretending, because he honestly wasn't attracted to the older boy. Not in that way, at least. He'd only had a couple of conversations with the guy, so he didn't even know him that well! ”Hi...” he mumbled in response. This... well, it was just really awkward for the freshman, though the way they were wrapped around eachother couldn't exactly be called uncomfortable. He looked nervously up at the other guy, still clinging to Danny. Nicki didn't glare at people unless they really annoyed him, and though people in his grade did that often, the older students scared him to death. Even Danny had scared him at first, though now he was pretty sure that the sophomore wouldn't hurt him.
He looked up at Danny again as he tensed, his brow furrowing in worry. He didn't have the best hearing, and he hadn't exactly been paying attention to the taller boy as he spoke, so Nicki had no idea what the brunette had said that had made Danny unhappy. ”Wha...?” The freshman got pretty good grades, but he wasn't exactly smart when it came to other people. He was anti-social, and honestly didn't understand a lot of the things that people did. Friendly punches terrified him. Actually, he had even been scared when Danny had pulled him over here. It was an instinctual thing when people were constantly trying to hurt you.
”Are you okay?” he asked, relaxing visibly as the other guy left. He was pretty sure that the other student was gone, but Danny didn't let go and neither did he. Seeing as he was pretending to be... something for the sophomore, he wasn't about to do anything without asking him first. A bright blush flooded his face as Danny kissed his cheek. Shit... this was just plain embarrassing, it really was. But... there were other things on his mind at the moment; things that worried him a lot more than a kiss on a cheek, though they were related to that.
The freshman looked up at the sophomore, his face portraying his confusion. ”Wha... what did you mean by boy friend?” he mumbled, still blushing. Oh, this was just sad. Horribly sad.
The effeminate Korean kid didn't even know what boyfriend meant, though he was starting to guess.

"Yeah" Danny finally let go of Nicki as he saw the older boy leave the cafetaria, though he immediately moved to grab his wrist to tug him down at a nearby table, so Nicki wouldn't think about running off rightaway. "I'm so sorry I dragged you into that" He apologized softly, picking up a piece of fruit from his fruit salad and popping it into his mouth - not just because he was hungry but because he needed a moment to think about everything that had happened. Nicki interrupted his thoughts with a question that made him blink for a moment, wondering exactly what he meant. He couldn't possibly not understand what boyfriend meant, could he?
Taking a small sip from his tea, he gave a soft smile at the freshman, relieved that the Korean boy had played along despite his apparent confusion. "That guy .. he thought he could just .. waltz in here and tell me that he wants me in his bed tonight" He was almost angry again at the memory, obviously bristling a little as he slipped a strawberry into his mouth, munching on it as he looked at Nicki. "Thank you for helping me out. I didn't know what else to do and you were around .. I hope I didn't make you too uncomfortable."
Danny was tempted to reach out and squeeze Nicki's hand, wanting to make him smile, though he figured that the boy would blush even more and potentially feel even worse than he was right now, so despite his fingers itching to touch the freshman, he just smiled at him for a moment. "I figured the only way he'd leave me alone was if I told him I was dating someone. Dating you."

The cuddle hadn't been so bad that Nicki was relieved to be let go, but he didn't miss it, either. It had been awkward and embarrassing, yet comfortable, though the comfort probably had nothing to do with Danny himself. As long as the freshman knew the person he was cuddling with, he was always comfortable. Not that he cuddled that much, of course. ”No, it's okay,” he mumbled. The whole physical dragging thing had scared him more than the situation itself, actually. It had all ended well, so what was the use in protesting? Maybe if Nicki had gotten hurt, he would have been more unhappy, but he was just fine. It had made his morning a bit more interesting, actually, and that was nice. In an odd way, he had kind of liked helping Danny. It was odd because, well... Nicki didn't like helping people. He had only had three conversations with this guy, and yet they already seemed to be pretty good friends.
He hadn't been thinking of leaving, actually. The freshman liked talking to Danny, even though they only had about twenty minutes left before first period. ”He wanted you in his bed? Like, to cuddle?” Obviously, Nicki hadn't taken Health yet. How sheltered could one kid be? The freshman frowned, watching Danny eat the strawberry. Someone as innocent as him was bound to be corrupted eventually, though in some part of his mind he was probably starting to realize that there were a lot of things he didn't know. The freshman had heard the jokes, the constant teasing and older kids touching eachother. It was odd, but it was almost like his mind was one of a child. If he was going to learn what the hell was going on, he'd rather it not be from people teasing him and laughing at his confusion. Really, it was just pathetic how innocent he was. The tiny freshman sighed. ”I guess I'm probably annoying you,” he said slowly, nervously. ”But could you at least explain what you mean...? And... it wasn't too uncomfortable.” The blush that had been starting to drain away just flared up once more. This was such a bad morning for him.
“Boyfriend” was a term he was starting to understand. “Get me in his bed” was something that would take time to wrap his head around. “Dating”... well, even precious Nicki understood that. ”... Oh,” he said, his voice flat. ”Dating... me.” Well, now, that was probably the single most strange thing that had happened to him this shitty morning. Could this really get any worse? He looked up at the slightly taller male, his apathetic expression contrasting the cute face he had been making earlier. ”... Are we dating?”

Annoying? No. In fact it was sweet, more than anything, that Nicki seemed so innocent. Danny wished he had been like that, but even as a freshman his reputation had been set in stone. The first time he'd kissed someone he'd been twelve, and it had all gone downhill from there. Whether by rumors or tv, Danny had quickly learned what sex was all about, and intimacy had never come up. He'd had to learn that for himself, why any sexual act left him feeling empty and sad afterwards. So when Nicki suggested he was probably annoying him Danny quickly shook his head, sending the smaller boy a reassuring smile.
"You're not annoying me at all, I promise" He assured him, before drinking another sip of his tea, not wanting to let it go cold during their conversation. When Nicki continued talking, however, asking if they were dating, he nearly choked on the liquid and ended up coughing for a good minute or so, his face red from lack of oxygen afterwards. "Um" He started, frowning a little bit, wondering how to get himself out of yet another sticky situation. "That guy .. he thought that I'm um, easy? Like I'll have sex with anyone?" And wasn't that just a wonderful thing to tell about yourself.
Nibbling on a grape, his gray eyes settled on the smaller freshman for a moment, a faint smile appearing on his face again. Danny was always the kind of boy to be protected - if someone managed to get past his I don't need anyone attitude, it was kind of nice that someone seemed more innocent and sweet than he came across as. "Would you want to be dating me?" He asked, unsure. They weren't dating, he hadn't even thought of Nicki that way, but the boys question made him wonder if he had. "I mean, I'm not .. I've not ever dated someone, but I'm pretty sure that we'd at least have to go on an actual date to be considered dating." He didn't have the heart to tell him he wasn't interested in him that way, though he hoped that Nicki returned that sentiment.

It was nice to hear that he wasn't annoying. After all, he was a freshman, considered a runt by both height standards and the social ladder. He wasn't exactly likeable to most of the student body, but most of the time he didn't mind that. The pika shifter was antisocial by nature, so sometimes he actually enjoyed the relative isolation that he received. And other times? Well, others times he got pretty depressed, but that might have to do with other things. However, when Danny started coughing, Nicki got pretty worried. ”Uhm... Danny... are you okay?” he asked quietly, almost reaching a hand out to touch the sophomore's shoulder. He stopped himself, though. After all, if the other boy had reacted so badly to his question, he probably didn't want Nicki touching him.
If he had been a normal person, maybe he would have been worrying that Danny thought he was unattractive or something like that. As it was, he was just concerned for the guy's safety and his oxygen supply. Maybe there was a bit of uneasiness lurking somewhere, a bit of stress that he had done something wrong again, but there wasn't much of it. If Danny died on him, he wouldn't exactly be happy. The sophomore was one of the only people that Nicki was comfortable with, after all. It would be like one of his best friends dying, though he wouldn't exactly stick that label on Danny. He was just a normal friend, though the fact that he had picked Nicki for the relationship ruse had made him think that Danny might think otherwise. His reaction to the question had cleared any doubts of that, but now Nicki was worried about other things.
The awkwardness of this situation was an example. How exactly was he supposed to answer that question? Would he want to date Danny? The sophomore was great and one of his only friends, sure, but was he interested in him that way? ”No... not really...” he mumbled, staring at his hand as he drummed his fingers on the table nervously. Would Danny take that wrong? He had kind of made it sound like he didn't like Danny... oh, he would hate it if the older boy got mad at him. ”B-but... it's not like I don't like you!” he said after a moment, looking up at Danny. ”You're a really good friend!” He just had to clarify that. How would he feel if Danny left him all alone? Lost. The sophomore was the first of the older students that had really been nice to him, other than Asia. And, frankly, Asia was a little stalkerish. The sophomore was just... there. There was no other way to describe it. They may have only talked a few times, but Nicki really liked the other boy. Just not in that way.
"Do you think that guy will come back?" It was another thing that Nicki was worried about. The freshman's head was just full of innocent little fears today, wasn't it? "Would he hurt you if he got mad?"
